Private Curtis Adams was from Anderson, South Carolina. The same town that Honor for Heroes is located. His story, along with the dedication of Kip Price from West Virginia, is what brought the story of the Wereth 11 to the attention of Honor for Heroes.
PVT Curtis Adams was a medic attached to the all-Black 333rd Artillery Battalion and brutally tortured and murdered on December 17, 1944, along with the 10 other soldiers in Wereth, Belgium. His family, just like the others associated with the massacre, was not told what had happened to him in WWII until decades later when the story was uncovered.
He is survived by his son (Jesse Adams) who remembers little of his father due to him being young when he died.
Honor for Heroes held a memorial service for the Wereth 11, and specifically PVT Curtis Adams, on Veteran’s Day 2025, to honor their service and sacrifice. The guest of honor that day was Jesse Adams, and Honor for Heroes was able to provide the surviving family with a day of closure and deserved commemoration that was long overdue.
Honor for Heroes has plans to further commemorate Private Cutis Adams in his hometown. Some of the future projects include a road naming, a permanent monument, and an exhibit in the Anderson County Museum. Another long-term goal for Honor for Heroes is to have other services and memorials hosted by partnering individuals and organizations for all of the members of the Wereth 11 and their families in each of their home states.
