When the family of Sergeant First Class Frederick Darrell "Rob" Robertson approached Honor for Heroes, they asked a simple but meaningful question. How could they honor the life and legacy of their fallen Hero in a lasting way?
Honor for Heroes accepted that mission. Through the generosity of private donors, we designed the project, worked with the granite company to create a custom memorial bench, negotiated a permanent home with VFW Post 9273 in Piedmont, South Carolina, and coordinated the installation alongside an Eagle Scout's fire pit project. Together, the memorial became more than a bench. It became a place for reflection, remembrance, and gratitude.
SFC Robertson proudly served our nation through three tours in Vietnam and retired from the United States Army after a distinguished military career. He was a proud patriot, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who found joy in his family, the outdoors, and the simple moments of life.
Today, this memorial bench stands as a permanent tribute to his service and sacrifice. Protected in perpetuity by Honor for Heroes and the VFW Post 9273, it ensures that future generations will know the name of SFC Frederick D. Robertson and remember a man who faithfully served his country and deeply loved his family. This project is another example of Honor for Heroes fulfilling its mission by preserving the stories of our Heroes and creating meaningful places where their legacies will live on.
